OK, we're thinking of switching to an adsl company, such as BT, tiscali etc.
Is there a way to still use my linksys cable router (WRT54G) without using a cable service??

Just set the router to do the PPPoE in the settings page. A router can be used with any type of service, not just Cable ISP.

Modem/Router would need to be PPPoA compatible as UK ISPs like BT, Tiscali, Wanadoo etc using your phoneline all use that for user name/password access.

quick scan of the instruction manual/specs for the WRT54G and it doesnt support PPPoA ( Point to Point Protocol over ATM )
