Am I being hacked via email ports? (AVG popups)

Hi folks, in the last couple days, several times a day, I've been noticing an AVG popup over my quicklaunch bar indicating that AVG email scanner is scanning an ip address. This happens when I'm not sending or receiving email, and in fact the only email services I use are online. (gmail, etc)

The ip address shown is the same every time (61.184.100.8), which the wq.apnic.net query database says belongs to CHINANET-HB. (DingDingDing - warning bells!)

I've dug around on the web a bit and the answer I see most often is "turn off the notification in AVG and the problem will go away" But that sounds an awful lot like "Dig a hole in the sand and put your head in."

Any thoughts or advice? Should I worry, even if I never use local email software?

    Thanks for reading!

(oh yeah, I should add that I'm using Windows XP SP2, and using a llinksys wireless router/hub and windows firewall.)
