i am considering buying a new 64bit cpu (amd).

my question isthis , is the 64bit actually used or is it only complient with 64bit software. i.e. will i see any gain using my current software?

You'll see an increase in performance because they are newer processors. If you are upgrading now, an AMD 64 would be a good choice.

The 64-bit will not be used unless you have a 64-bit OS and 64-bit programs.
