    Hello everyone,

I have the same problem as:
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=259818
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1742669#post1742669
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=259727

But I don't get the "Repair your computer" option. I have the following options and they just do the same as a normal startup (I still get the white screen and I can't open the Task Manager or anything else):
I have the same options as shown at <snip>

Could someone please help me solve this problem? It's already bad that I lost what I was working on, but I really don't want to lose anything else and I need to work on my paper as soon as possible.

Thank you very much in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Rick

    Hi chaslang,

Thank you very much for the help. I just tried that a couple of times, but it keeps on showing a pop-up with "Failed to find a file required to create the Rescue Disk for the USB device, or the ISO disk image being in use is corrupted."

Could you help me with that? (maybe it has something to do with the fact that the iso file is shown with a Winzip file symbol)

    Kind regards,

    Rick

All I can say is try following the instructions again and take care to follow them properly. We are having many people using those instructions right now and they are all having success.

    Hi chaslang,

I tried it a couple more times, but the instructions aren't completely the same as the windows that appear so I've made pictures.

I also found the CD to reinstall MS XP with SP2 (I still haven't found the Vista one); should I try that (or do I then lose the files that are on the computer? I certainly don't want that)?

I hope to hear from you soon (there are a lot of deadlines I'm falling behind on because of this virus). Thank you very much in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Rick

---EDIT--- (it was more than 10 minutes after I made the post so I have to make a new post out of it)
I posted a message before this (with an image), but it has to be accepted by the moderators before it is shown. The image shows the steps I've taken so someone can maybe help me.

What version of Windows are you running on the problem PC? If you reinstall from scratch, yes you lose your files.

I'm running Vista on the problem PC. I don't want to lose my files, I need the files for the paper I'm writing otherwise I'm in big trouble (with financial consequences and the risk of not being able to get my Masters degree). Can someone please help me as soon as possible? I've mentioned every step I've taken; someone should know what went wrong. I have to start a plan B (which I really don't want to do because of many negative consequences) if I don't find or read a solution soon. Please help in any way you can, every bit of advice is really appreciated. Thank you all in advance.

    Kind regards,

    Rick

The error messages in your image are not really legible I cannot make out everything being shown.

    You have two choices.
    1. Find your Vista DVD to use it to boot from
    2. See if you can get a friend to help you create the USB Rescue Drive. We have dozens of people who have already used the procedure without a problem. I'm not sure what your exact problem is unless your USB drive has data already on it that is causing a problem or unless what you downloaded from Kaspersky got corrupted.

chaslang, thank you for trying to help me. I also asked my question on a Dutch speaking forum today (the text on my computer is often in Dutch, so that might prevent some confusion) and they advised me to just try using a CD instead of a USB. That worked and they also helped me clean up the computer afterwards so everything is working again now. I didn't give up because of how quickly everyone replied (also in other threads than my own) and how willing everyone was to help. Now I can finally work on my paper. Thank you very much!

    Kind regards,

    Rick
