    Hi all.

While down with the flu for the last few days, another buddy got what appears to be zero-access. This one would take over when he was logged in and tell him all about all the viruses and trojans he had etc. I unplugged him from the internet, put the downloads on a thumbdrive, and started running the protocol. At least I tried. I couldn't launch any programs. When I tried to run defogger, I could see it pop up and then it was gone. Aw, really? So I rebooted in safe mode. Ran defogger. Ran ccleaner. Ran RogueKiller, which reported ZeroAccess. Installed MB, and then installed the manual update file, then ran MB and let it clean up what it found. Then, on a lark, I rebooted the computer and let it come back up in normal mode. Ran the rest of the protocol. Rebooted and let the computer sit idle for a half hour. No more programs popping up, so that is good. But, not surprisingly, MSE is broken and cannot start. And for grins, I re-ran RogueKiller again, see second log, and it again reported finding ZeroAccess. So I am posting the logs hoping ya'll can take a look and let me know if/what I need to do to finish cleaning this one, and if/when it is safe to reconnect to the net.

    Thanks

    Darin

And here is the log from the re-run of RogueKiller. I have, of course, not allowed RogueKiller to delete anything yet.

    Thanks

When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[2].txt
Attach RKreport[2].txt to your next message. (How to attach)

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Delete these folders:
    • C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\5039DA6D9FD4A506000050398A39AA9B

    • Then make sure the Restart System radio button is enabled.
    • Shutdown any other programs that you are running now before continuing.

    Hi Kestrel13.

Thanks for the help! Sorry for missing the TeaTimer. Duh...

    So, ran RogueKiller.

The Registry tab didn't have any of the detections. It had 5 detections, be they looked different. I did find the files and hosed them out. I, for some reason, can't find the check-boxes for selecting which files to delete in RogueKiller, but conveniently, the only files it listed where the ones you wanted to kill, and it found all of those so... Attached is the log.

I rebooted and ran analyse.exe, located the line you listed and fixed just it.

    Then I deleted the folders.

At this point, since I am coming back to a computer with net access to download Windows Repair, I thought I would pause and give you the log from RogueKiller as I didn't get rid of any registry entries and wanted to double check that I should still proceed.

    Thanks

    Darin

    Ok then. All done.

I checked the windows firewall by just checking the windows security center. According to that, the firewall is up.

Interestingly, the computer now thinks it has an A: drive that is a 5 1/4" Floppy. It doesn't. huh?

I haven't hooked it back up to the net yet. I assume that hooking it back up and re-installing MSE are the next two steps, but wanted to make sure.

    Thanks!

Now, when you rescan with RogueKiller does it detect any zero access items anymore or not?

You ran a slightly outdated version of MGTools. But it doesn't matter at this stage.

Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.
    I don't know about that.

    Yes.

    How are things running?

Ok, so the steps below followed.

When I re-run roguekiller, it is still unhappy about some registry stuff, but it isn't saying ZeroAccess. I am attaching the most recent log.

I reinstalled MSE. Ran it. It found and removed

    Exploit:Java/CVE-2012-0507
    rogue:Win32/Winwebsec
    Exploit:java/CVE-2012-1723

The RogueKiller log is from a scan AFTER I let MSE remove those three entries.

Seems to be running ok. Looked at the Local Area Connection Status and the Packets Sent isn't going up like the national debt. Other than that, don't know what else to look at.

Thoughts about the MSE finds and/or the log from RogueKiller?

    Thanks again!!

What MSSE removed is fine, and what RogueKiller is detecting is not malware, it's all legit stuff. ;)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Press and hold the Windows key [IMG] and then press the letter R on your keyboard. This opens the Run dialog box.
      • Copy and paste the below into the Run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 4 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    5. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others) and running MGclean.bat did not remove, you can delete these files now.
    8. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 6 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    All set then.

    Thanks a bunch!
