Anti Virus And Spyware Help Needed

my Norton ran out 6 months ago and i havent had anti virus since , also i havent had any anti spyware

what is the best free software to use ? anti virus and anti spyware ?

also do i need a firewall ? and some kind of cleanup program would be awesome !, im intending to strip my comp back to its bare essentials and then keep it in gr8 condition

any help is really appreciated

These programs are what I like to use, everyone has their own preference.
(On a side note, if I'm not mistaken, be sure to remove all Norton files before installing another antivirus program, as it may cause conflicts.)

For free antivirus I recommend AntiVir, for free antispyware I'd recommend Spyware Terminator with Arovax Shield and Browser Hijack Retaliator. And for a free firewall, go with Comodo. They were recently rated the BEST firewall at www.matousec.com/projects/windows-personal-firewall-analysis/leak-test-results.php I've been using Comodo for about 8 months or so, and it replaced Sygate which I thought was great (but it's rated pretty low at the above link). Jetico's firewall also rates pretty high....
