Problem started with firewall turning off without prompts. Then any program to scan was deleted with message it contained a virus. Read through all posts and followed your malware removal program precisely. Still getting message that any download has been deleted due to virus. Am attaching logs to this. Thanks SO much for doing what you do!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    • Exit any programs that you may have started. Shutdown protection software too.
    • Please disconnect any USB or external drives from the computer before you run this scan!
    • Rerun RogueKiller ( if running Vista,Win7, or Win8 user right-click and select Run as Administrator to run ) for WinXP and Win 2K just double click to run
    • Wait until Prescan has finished
    • Then Click on "Scan" button
    • Wait until the Status box shows "Scan Finished"
    • click on "delete"
    • Wait until the Status box shows "Deleting Finished"
    • Click on "Report" and attach the content of the Notepad into your next reply.
    • The log should be found in a new RKreport[x].txt on your Desktop
    • Exit/Close RogueKiller and reboot your PC immediately.
    • Now rerun a scan with both Hitman Pro and TDSSkiller. Attach these new logs too.

Ran pgms as instructed. Pls see attached logs. Thanks again for your service. My wife has really been frustrated with this problem as she often works from home so she doesn't have to drive downtown. This problem has prevented her from doing that and since I am unemployed, we don't have the cash to go the local service tech route, which is another reason we really appreciate what you are doing.

Good news! Looks like rerunning the pgms did the trick. :hyper I attempted a D/l from CNET which yesterday I was unable to do as the same msg came up saying it was a threat and it was deleted. Today, it D/Ld the file with no problem. Appears your magic fixed it so unless something changes, please accept my sincere appreciation along with my wife's. So is there a donation link where we can donate once I get a job? I really want to do that as this is a big deal for us. :highfive

    You're welcome.

We do not accept donations. If you really want to give back then pick your favorite charity and send them something. ;) If you do not have a favorite, two of mine are American Cancer Society and Make A Wish Foundation.

We have a little more to do.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win 7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar
      ) and choose Paste.
    • Now click the large [IMG] button.
    • If OTM asks to reboot your computer, allow it to do so. The report should appear in Notepad after the reboot.
    • Close OTM.
Now navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder ( assuming your Windows drive is C). This is where your log will be
saved in the form of Date and Time mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log. Just look for the most recent .log file. Attach
this log file to your next message.

Now please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
    • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista or Seven, right-mouse click it and select Run as Administrator.
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Note: That JRT may reset your home page to a google default so you will need to restore your home page setting if this happens.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Attach JRT.txt to your next message.
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, Win7 or Win8, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    Hey chaslang

Took me a while to get back on this, but here is what I have done.

    1. Followed your directions from your post of 9/12
    2. Have attached files you requested
    3. Wife reports she has had no negative actions since I completed your instructions
    4. On the positive, she has had a MS security update (which she could NOT do prior to your advice)
    5. She has had a Windows update too
    6. Firewall is now working (was not before as malW interfered with it)
    7. It seems to be running faster.

So THANK YOU VERY MUCH! It is GREATLY appreciated. I will make a donation in appreciation of your support to Wounded Warriors.

    You're welcome.
    Also a good choice.

Okay we have a little more cleanup to do. Even one item is a left over service from McAfee Firewall. However before continuing, I need to ask, are you using McAfee Firewall or were you using the Windows Firewall. The McAfee Firewall shows up in your installed programs list as Shared C Run-time for x64 which is quite stupid if you ask me. An application should show up with its proper name and this name has no meaning at all to anyone.

    Hi chaslang

We uninstalled McAfee before we contacted you because of problems. Also, Microsoft recommended it be uninstalled. It has not been reinstalled. The laptop is running Windows Firewall only, at least as far as we intended.

I have no idea about the file named Shared C Run-time..... That is way over my head as to why a McAfee program would be named like that.

If you need more details, just let me know. Thanks again!

Okay then we will remove it.

Uninstall Shared C Run-time for x64 if you see it. If you do not see it, just continue on anyway.

    Hey there

We ran the steps as you instructed and have attached the files to this post. As for how it is working, it seems to be working fine but I have to say that the last time we replied, it seemed ok but you found something that concerned you, hence this last step. Must be a Geek thing, which I absolutely appreciate.

I don't know what else to report so I will standby to see if you find any more issues. Once you give us the final ok, we are going to purchase a program you recommended by Iobit called Advanced System Care Ultimate. Is that what you recommend? Can we buy that through you? If so let me know as we would be happy to do that.

Thanks again. You are a life saver dude.

You're welcome. I need those follow up logs. You forgot to attach them. Make sure that you have run the GetLogs.bat program before trying to attach MGlogs.zip, otherwise you will not have a new log and it will not attach.

Sorry. I did add them to the post but I probably forgot to upload them first. Let's try again.
Ok, it does show two files as attached so it should be GTG. Thanks.

It is probably as good as the next. ;) Who is best any given time varies based upon last updates. I will warn you to be careful with the tweaking tools built in. Cleaning the registry is something we strongly recommend against. More frequently it can cause more harm than good and many times the harm does not show for awhile. And I'm not a big fan of other tweaks that supposedly improve PC performance. Many times the performance change is negliable and they are all things you can do yourseld and with more control over what is done. Sometimes it is just good to live by the old saying, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it!" I have seen many computers that are actually running slower after using tweaking tools. Malware prevention does not come under this saying, but tweaking does. :)

    Your logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware.
    2. Renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it in step 4 of the READ & RUN ME.
    3. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis. If you don't see it or it will not uninstall, don't worry about it. Just move on to the next step.
    4. If running Vista, Win 7 or Win 8, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Now goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click ( if running Vista, Win7, or Win 8 Right Click and Run As Administrator ) on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    6. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    7. If you are running Win 8, Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below to flush restore points:
      • Refer to the instructions for your WIndows version in this link: Disable And Enable System Restore
      • What we want you to do is to first disable System Restore to flush restore points some of which could be infected.
      • Then we want you to Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
