    Hi,

I have Win Patrol installed on my computer and every so often I get that dog barking asking me whether I want to allow certain programs. Some of the programs I don't know. I want to make sure that I allow the right programs in and not allow the wrong programs in my computer. Is there a way to tell? Some of them I do know, but others I have no idea if they are bad or good programs.

    Thanks for any help.

    Sandi

;)i use winpatrol on all my comps, it would help if you either posted a screenshot, or tell us what program, or file, etc. sometimes the things that popup are related to other programs (ie - when i do updates to spybot s&d, i will get a hosts change, i merely look it over real quick, and accept or deny). sometimes you can click the "info" button, and get a better idea (unless you have the paid version, and it will give you more detail).

normally, you don't see alot of changes. however, if you install programs, or uninstall programs, then there are changes (and that is when scotty barks/asks), some of ther stuff will say "once", and some ask to be put into the startup.

sometimes when you are installing programs, and it asks to be put into startup, you have to allow it, so it will finish the installation (use your best judgement). then, later on, i'll eithe disable it, and/or remove the startup item completly. - sos

Ok, next time it comes up I will take a screen shot. Most of the stuff that comes up I know what it is, there are a few that I don't that keep coming up no matter if I press yes or no.

    Thanks.

Well when you use a WinPatrol (a great program imho) you can use:

    Process Explorer

Those processors or applications identified by WInPatrol can now be explored in greater detail. You can right click on them in Process explorer and it will google each and every application/process that you are curious about. Give yourself a greater understanding on what is running in your system.

These are two very good sites to use a reference as well:

Good luck, Scottie is good but sadly doesn't play in 64Bit land.....;-(
