I've started getting "msmsgs.exe - Application error" "The application failed to initialize properly (0x0000034). Click on OK to terminate the application" every time I boot my system. I get a similar message when I try to launch QuickBooks (same hex error code, but obviously the program name is different: qbw32.exe). It seems like both of these messages showed up at about the same time.

I've gone through the "do not post until you have read this: how to: spyware, trojan and virus removal" instructions. Still getting these error messages.

This has been going for a while, but nothing else seems to be affected.

Recently I tried installing the Lookout addin for MS Outlook (well after the above problems showed up). When I launch Outlook, I get an error message that says "Lookout (like all .NET applications) requires that GDIPLUS.DLL exist on your system. It is usually there, but on some systems (like yours) it isn't." I've downloaded NET 1.1 and am still getting the messages.

Would like to solve both problems (perhaps they are related?).

Running XP on an IBM t42.

Any help would be much appreciated!

These are not malware related problems (at least not from what I can tell). I'm moving this to the Software Forum. If at a later time it is decided that it is malware related, we can look further into potential malware issues.
