    Hi,
    As per tirle.
This particular message pops up on a piece of software that i use.
I used this software many times without an issue but today when i clicked on its icon the message pops up.
I removed the said software & installed it again but same message pops up.

Any advise how i can go about what is causing this to happen.

    Thanks
    Win xp Laptop
I dont have it connected to internet as its just something i use now & then as i use pc with internet connection.

    Btteries,Computer,Disc Drives,Dvd/Com Rom

Firstly I would run the checks I suggested.
After that go to the system manufacturer's support site for your exact model and see if there are any driver updates there.

    Found system information.
Clicked on Display but nothing appears on the right

Brand and exact model would help.

I don't have XP installed on any laptops. When I open Device manager in Win 7 netbook, I have to click the down arrow at Display adapter to see the hardware. Note: right clicking on the word display adapter shows nothing.

    LAPTOP
    Sony Vaio
Label on front FS VGN FS115B
    Label on rear PCG 791M

I cant select any drop down arrow because Display Adapter isnt even in the device manager list

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

    OK
I am asked to put in disc 2 which i dont have ?

It doesn't ask you for anything until the scan is complete. See the link I posted and produce a TEXT document to your desktop first. Then upload that text doc here. Ignore any suggestions to fix errors until we see the scan report.

    It does.
Ive found an xp disc and now see a blue prograss bar.

    OK good luck with it.

Following the instructions on the link you sent me it shows it running after typing sfc /scannow then hitting enter.
When i hit enter i was told to input disc.

Looking through some discs i have ive got an xp disc.
The progress bar is half way across the page now

Let if finish until it tells you the result.
You can then try that software program again.

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

Well im sorry but looking on that page it reads cmd then scf /scannow then hit enter correct ?
Otherwise please point out where on the page it tells you about a txt file

It was in the link I posted to you in post #12 above.
Go to a command prompt and copy and paste this line below and hit enter
    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >"%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt"
If you cannot do the above in normal mode, then restart into Windows Safe Mode - command prompt.

If that doesn't work in XP I have no other ideas.

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

    Ok,
    Lets rewind a bit.
I see the bit that you refer to Details are included in the CBS.Log %WinDir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log.
But like i mentioned typing sfc /scannow then hit enter asks for the disc.
Looking at the page link you mentioned it just continues with a scan
Mine doesnt continue with a scan hence asking for a disc.

    Ok
Still the same after using that disc, even afther a restart.
I then typed your code but nothing.
When i closed the cmd wind the was a txt file on the desktop but it was blank when opened.

    I then did this again.
sfc \scannow hit enter and now see the image supplied below which i didnt see before because it kept asking for the disc, now im not asked when i hit enter ?

I suggest you just restart your system in normal mode. Try that software program again. If it still doesn't work (and you have also already looked at the Sony drivers site) then I'm out of ideas and wish you luck.

Normal mode, this isnt safe mode mind, its just a scren shot of the cmd run box.
Looking at the instructions on that other piece of advice you mentioned it said type sfc \scannow into the run box and press enter.
I did this but just get a flash on the screen but nothing else.
Im actually typing in the run box cmd, enter then sfc \ scannow enter

not showing for me. No idea how you are doing it but doing an alt+PrtSc then saving it in Paint in JPEG form to the desktop, then uploading it here would mean I would see it.

AdBlock plus was blocking that image. strange never known that before but it could be you used a photo website to upload it.

By the way for the command it's FORWARD slash and not a backward slash.

Have you restarted your system and tried that software program yet? If not do that. Then post #24 applies.

  32. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

    Yes restarted by no joy.
FYI i have a few jpg images on the laptop.
When i click preview or even double click nothing is shown.

Good luck with resolving the issues. Maybe a total Win XP reinstall is the answer.

  34. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

    I was thinking that.
I have a xp pro disc which was from my pc before is installed win 7
If i decide to install this cd how do you get the latest updates etc as its not supported anymore ?

  35. MaxTurner

    MaxTurner Banned

If Windows Update doesn't solve it I suggest you google it.

  36. theremotedr

    theremotedr Master Sergeant

But windows update stopped support for xp a year ago etc

  37. MaxTurner

    MaxTurner Banned

Two years ago actually. But that meant further support, not prior to that date. A freshly installed XP will show updates in Windows Update but you might have to download Xp SP3 separately and you should google where to get that from.
To be honest, I can't help you any further, so any more queries you'll need to wait for others to answer.

So i should be then able to use windows update to download / install what i require
