Are AIM messages saved?

I use AIM, and was wondering if conversations that take place through AIM are saved? Does AOL save messages? Does my computer record them? As far as I know my version of AIM dosnt save them. Could a computer forensic be able to find IM's sent through AIM? Thanks

Anything and everything via your ISP is logged, and that includes proxy servers. That's the law, at least in most civilised countries.

Unless you are doing something really evil, in which case you deserve getting caught, then don't worry about it.

If it dosnt record on the computer itself, is it safe to assume that no one else can gain access to them? Does AOL keep records of IM's sent through AOL? Could for instance (through forensics), messages be obtained, either through the computer used, or through aol?

 

I just told you, it can be done through your ISP at the very least.

 

AIM does not record them, others (like Trillian) can. Like email, you never can be sure where copies might be kept by other systems.
