    OK,

If you've been following my posts from today then you'll know my efforts today to eradicate this monster have failed.

I need help, and I'm giving it one more shot here before I resort to REFORMATTING my notebook entirely. At least with a reformat I'll have peace of mind that this thing is dead on my drive and I can get back to my life. This thing is insidious.

I'll be back in a minute to post my HJT Log:

    FIXED!

    Here's what I did:
    • Unplug your connection to the Internet while fixing this problem. This is critical.
    • Run CWShredder, HJT, and the other major spyware killer software listed in these threads.
    • Start your browser session and make note of the offending URL. Note the specific pieces of the URL such as the DLL file, htm filename, and the numerical extension at the end.
    • Go into your registry and search and delete all instances of what you noted from directly above.
    • Also, search in c:\windows\ and c:\windows\system32\ for the same criteria you did in your registry and delete.
    • While in those two directories, search and delete all randomly named dll files that take the form *****32.dll, where the *s are random letters.
    • Run CWShredder, HJT, and the other major spyware killer software listed in these threads and fix and/or delete all problem items.
    • Reboot
    • At this point, if you're pretty sure you've found all you can (or all you can stand), then now come's the final touch...
    • Restore your system to a point in time before you noticed the "Only The Best" pop ups and homepage hijack.
    • That's what worked for me!
Hopefully you have a restore point that goes back far enough. I'm relieved I found a workaround after spending the better portion of a week and a half reading through these threads and trying a lot of the ideas found here and on spywareinfo. However, as relieved as I am, my computer is not virus free. More like its in remission. You know what I mean? Only a reformat and clean install of everything will ease my mind 100%. Hopefully, the guys at CWShredder, Lavasoft and the like, especially Norton, can put their resources to use on finding a clean fix for this scurge.

    Peace out.
