Well, I'v got a pretty old system. Win 98, I've had it for 4 years now. I've not run an adware scanning program until just now. Bad, I know.

So I downloaded Ad-Aware from Lavasoft and ran a scan. It nailed 509 items (whew!). I quarantined and deleted all of them. One, though, refuses to be killed. It's some NewDotNet adware, and it's listed under Misc. I looked at it's proeperties, and went to my program files to delete it manually. I sent it to the recycle bin, and upon emptying the bin, it says I cannot delete it. "Access denied".

How do I get rid of this thing? Thanks for the help.

From what i have read is that it comes with imesh and thus without it imesh can't run, try going to add/remove programs in the control panel and try getting rid of both of them if you have them posted. I also recommend that you download Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster, SpywareGuard, and the CWShredder, all can be found in MajorGeeks.com front page under Spyware Tools make sure that you also update that databases after you install them. Good Luck

Thanks for the help, but what's imesh?

Also, this thing is trying to run at Startup, but I get a message saying that the correct file path can't be found. Thank goodness. I ran AA again and all of it's counterparts are back.

I checked out the link and read it, chaslang, but I've already got Ad Aware and when I click the Spybot link it says something about routing through server not possible. Or something like that. Basically 404'd.

Is your reference list for Ad-aware current and do you see anything for NewDotNet in Add/Remove programs? Also, try the link Alan gave for SpyBot S&D and run it.

I downloaded Spybot S&D, and it found 18 items. I deleted them all. I wanted to see if I had gotten rid of NDN, so I went to my program files, and it was gone. I thought I had gotten rid of it, until I rebooted today. It tried to run at startup but couldn't find the right file path. This thing is so annoying.

Does anyone know of anything else I can do?

Did you look at the link I gave you below?

Well I looked at it again and after trying a lot of those methods I uninstalled it from my windows folder in drive C with it's own uninstall agent.

It doesn't try to run at startup any more, and it's not in my program files folder. I think it's gone. But the uninstall program is still on my system. Is it okay to delete that, or is NDN not totally off my system?

If you have located their directory and have already used their uninstall, delete any remaining files or directories related to it.

To get rid of NewDotNet go to http://www.newdotnet.com/ and follow the instructions for uninstallation. If that doesn't work, click on your "start" button and then click on run. When the run dialog box comes up type msconfig and click on the "ok" button. While in msconfig go to the "startup" tab and just deselect NewDotNew, then click the "apply" and "ok" buttons. Restart the computer and at startup NewDotNet won't run.
