Anyone know why this card seems to suck so bad? I 'upgraded' from a Radeon 9600 SE, and i gotta say, im not real pleased with my decision. It gets choppy on quite a few games, games that ran great, if a little slow, on the radeon. The image quality is excellent i have to say, but the framerates bounce up and down like an asian whore on a drunken sailor. i just may have to buy my radeon back if i cant get this fixed.

Need more info.. but sounds like possibly the 6800 is not getting enough power...

What are the specs of your system?

yea, could be a lack of power. i have the xfx 6800XT 256mb and it kicks some serious @$$, when its overclocked though...

500w Coolmax PSU. the 12V rails total to 34A. the rest of the system is not overclocked or unstable. like i said, the radeon ran good, just a little slow but steady. the nvidia is fast, but framerates rise and fall alot. i prefer steady to sporadic.

what games are u playing? ive found that due to the 6800XT's low fill rate, it doesnt do so hot at higher resolutions. try dropping the res and see if it helps, unless you're trying the same settings u had with the 9600, then we have a problem...lol

I do prefer to play at least 1024x768, but i play some games @ 1280x960. and yes, i used these same resolutions with the 9600. it ran slow but steady, so i decided to upgrade. i think i maybe made a mistake in buying the 6800xt. i should have gotten the 9800 radeon, i bet i would have liked it better.

I upgraded from a 9600 to a 6800gt agp and added a xtreme music card to my 300watt supply so i dont think its power

What are the specs on the rest of your system?

The power problem was suggested before the 500W PSU was mentioned.

I have an nForce 2 chipset on the mobo, and i just found whole buttload of forums w/ ppl who have problems getting this card to run smooth with that chipset. Damnit. Oh well. Ill just suck it up till I upgrade in like 2 yrs.

That card isnt' the issue i have a 6600 and it runs fine, very steady frame rates and such, start by upgrading your drivers and making sure you have no other background programs grabbing your cpu.

The only programs that run in the background are Fraps and my firewall. I have gone through the services and disabled the stuff i dont need. BTW, a 6600 is not the same as a 6800XT. Looking around online, I found a lot of compatibility problems with the 6800XT and nForce2 chipsets specifically. Apparently this has been an issue with nVidia for a long time, around 2 to 3 years. They never did anything to fix it. They just moved on to the next cards. I have tried adjusting all the card settings, one at a time. I have tried downgrading the video and chipset drivers to older versions. I have tried turning off fastwrites, sidebanding, adjusting aperature, tweaking with Rivatuner. When i first go the card i tried reformatting the HDD and a fresh install of all the software. I tried registry tweaks. Hell, i even borrowed my 9600 back from the guy i sold it to, and guess what? It was slow, but smooth, just like before. As the title says, 6800XT sux for gaming. The 6600 may be ok, but that is not the case with this card.

Sorry just tired of ppl giving the same advice over and over. I do appreciate the help, but i have tried everything i can think of or find online, and so far no luck. Im going back to ATI when i upgrade. I mean how can a Nvidia card have compatibility issues with a Nvidia chipset, and they never fixed it!! WTF.

well, the 6800XT isnt a real powerhouse or a popular card so it wouldnt really make sense for nvidia to invest money where it wouldnt really profit them. yea, it sucks for us but its how they make the moolah. also, the nforce2 is older than the 6800xt which contributes to the what i just mentioned
