    Dear all,

The problem is: When my computer start all the desktop, program and file icons, apear as unrecognized with an extention (.ink)
Currently, only two programs present in the computer are recognised and able to star:
    1) CCleaner : when start launchs multiple windows (as many as 53 sometimes), however I can used but does noy help much

    2) Trend micro pro. This report in the last two days:

    viruses: TROJ_vundo.AVZ (sttoped 72 times)
Unautorized change prevention: 37496 programs(mainly one called Windows\system32\svchost32.exe)
    Spyware: CrackingApps_keygen; cookie_tacoda; Cookie Revsci

It is important to mention: 1) that Ad-aware 2007 was installed in the computer but now apears also as (.ink) file. 2) I can not connect to internet
    3) I have just a basic knoledge about computers

I to did try to solve the issue:

    1) scanning with CCleaner several tiems (did not work)
    2) full scan with trend micro (did no work)
    3) starting in safe mode(does not change at all)
    4) try to reinstall ad aware (at this point I realized that I can not install any program, not even using the task manager to run the set up)

    -----------------------------------------------------
    D:\program files\trendsecure\tscfcommander.exe
" this file does not have a program associated with it for perform this action. Create an association in the folder options control panel.
    ----------------------------------------------------------

    5) try to repare XP rebooting from instalation cd (does not access to the set up)

    6) try to navigated to c:\windows\help\mui\accas.dll to repare this file with
    c:
    cd\windows\help\mui
    ren accas.dll accas.old
but did not found the location of the file.

Then as last option I decided to ask you guys for a hand to bring back alive my little laptop (asus M2C, windows XP PRO SP2, intel centrino).

I would really like to thank you for the help that you may probide me.:confused

Welcome to MajorGeeks.com, please follow our standard cleaning procedures:

Please follow as many steps as possible from the below. If you can't do some of the scans, be sure you attach the GetRunKey, ShowNew and HijackThis logs.

[IMG] Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
[IMG] Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

[IMG]After doing ALL of the above and you still have a problem, make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below thread to properly use HijackThis and attach the log:

[IMG] Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis
    • Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around..
[IMG]When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
    • CounterSpy Log - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
    • AVG Antispyware Log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy. - only for Windows XP, 2K, & NT users
    • Bitdefender Log - from step 6
    • Panda Scan Log - from step 6
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • HijackThis Log
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

    problem solved

    Dear all,

My problem was originated when a anti-malicious software (I am not shore which one exactly because when the problem happens, I had installed Ad-aware(2007), CCleaner(free version) and Trend micro PRO 2007), broke the "executable file associations". Which means that shortcuts (which appear as .LNK files) won't activate their associate .EXE file and consequently the program won't run. That is why was I wasn't able to use:

    1) desktop icons
    2) windows XP installation CD to repair it
    3) Any explore Window

    The answer was:

1)activate the Registry editor. Different procedures are described in

    http://filext.com/faq/broken_exe_association.php

In my case the only possible way as through the Command Prompt window. to open Command Prompt window just press CTRL-ALT-DEL only ones to activate the Task Manager. Click on File and hold down CTRL key and then (holding CTRL) click New Task (Run). That should open Command Prompt window.

After activated, write into the Command Prompt window (after each line press enter):

    CD \
    CD WINDOWS
    COPY REGEDIT.EXE REGEDIT.COM
    REGEDIT.COM

That must open the Registry editor (if not, write into Command Prompt window

    REGEDIT.EXE

    and then press enter

    2) Import the adequate REG files to fix the associations between the different programs. The REG files and procedure to do that are described in

    http://www.dougknox.com/xp/file_assoc.htm

It is important to note that from the REGiSTRY EDITOR program it is possible to access to the different drives(for example CD or USB), copy, paste or even extract ZIP files. Ones you import files to fix .EXE, .LNK and .COM you will be able to use some of the icons in the desktop and the you will be able to complete the rest faster. In the next page also appear a .REG file to re-associate the files according with Windows XP defaults.

    http://www.dougknox.com/xp/tips/xp_easy_file.htm

    3) Finally in the next page appear some clues about what originate the problem and how avoid it .

In your initial post, you mentioned a few infections. I would still recommend running the READ ME and attaching the logs because those infections could possible still be present.

It's up to you but I would suggest it.
