auto updates has blocked ports with sp2

hi i am operating with windows xp and a while back my p2p progs, emule and limewire stopped working which i thought was due to me switching firewalls to commodo free, i since tried some torrent progs and shareaza which didnt work either, the latter informing me due to service pack2 making port restrictions it would not work, the reason for this i had automatic updates on not thinking anything like this would happen, i have tried system restore but never seems to restore for me is there any way i can go back to original settings or can i reallow ports which i once used to work again, i am a beginner in this computing stuff and this all seems pretty complicated i would be grateful if any GEEK :major out there could help me, thanks

Have you made sure the Windows Firewall is disabled?

 

:major thanks for response, i quit windows firewall and even temporarily turned off my comodo firewall and still wouldnt work even tried to allow the ports(on my comodo) that shareaza said that sp2 had blocked, still nothing ,i take it this is what i get for using p2p (auto updates are now off bloody microsoft)i am even considering rebooting then whole thing and ignoring microsoft thanks for response anyway. :cry
