Got a usb virus onto my usb from a friend's computer. This then migrated to my computer and other of my usb's. To prevent further infection i installed flash disinfector. This happened a 4-5 months ago.

I was using avast antivirus. It detected the virus and put it in the virus chest. However it detected the same again when i ran a new scan using avast a few days later. Hence the virus never went. Infact i think it weakened avast and allowed the entry of more trojans and other malware into my system.

I found major geeks and decided to start a new thread with my problems. I followed instructions in the malware removal guide, by chaslang, as close as possible. I am attaching the log files from the different scanners that i installed as advised in the malware removal guide.

Hope to receive help as soon as possible. thank you

    Please download and install this:

    AutoEater.

I am not seeing any malware in your logs. Did you have the thumb drive installed when you ran the scans?

Please put ComboFix directly on your desktop, not here:
    Running from: c:\downloads\ComboFix.exe

no i didnt have the thumb drive installed when i was scanning because i found that some of the anti malware programmes downloaded did not have the option to scan removable drives.
Also combo fix couldn't do a fix of major malware since i didnt install the microsoft recovery console it suggests to install. should i run combo fix again and install it this time ?

Why did you say this? It did remove a few items and your logs are not showing those items as still existing.

Both SAS and MBAM should be able to scan all drives. ( You would have to choose full scan with MBAM, not the quick scan).

    Hi

I've taken your advise and scanned the computer again with the usb installed this time. Again created new logs with super anti spyware, MBAM..etc.

However i have not installed and run autoeater yet since i have only now finished scanning the usb drive; i believe the usb drive had a auto run worm, not sure if it still does.

Could you please have a look at the new logs to check if the usb does have an infection and if it may spread to the computer ?

Additionally, all of avast, MBAM, SAS have quite a few files under quarantine. Is that a problem ? As per the scans most of those files were quarantined and deleted.

    thanks again

It looks like MBAM found the infection and removed it.
    E:\vin\Warcraft III 1.22\v1.21a Loader\Files\worldedit.exe (Malware.Packer.Gen) -> Quarantined and deleted successfully.

I would still advise you to install AutoEater. Tell me what issues you are still having?

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to tahe cleaning procedures ian step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    hi tim

Just few more requests. Root repeal detected a MBR rootkit in my usb. Is that a problem ? I was just curious about that detection by root repeal. It was present in the previous log i attached.

Also i did not install combo fix onto the desktop, it got downloaded to c drive and i ran it from there. Later on i moved the executable to desktop as per your advise. Will the uninstall procedure for combofix still work ?

Otherwise i have no other problems with the computer. thankyou

RootRepeal always does this. It is not an issue.
Yes, since it is now on the desktop, the removal script will work fine.

And you are most welcome. Safe surfing. :)
