I'm not sure it this is the proper place to post this or not so if it is not I am sorry. Here's the deal.

Was on my computer last night everything was working fine. I left to go to a freinds house for a while so I closed all my programs and left the computer running. When I got back I tried to sign in to Windows live messenger and it would not let me. That was at about 2 am and I still cannot sign in to messenger.

Also I can go to myspace.com but when I put in my email and password and try to log in the page just gets stuck while trying to load and doesn't go anywhere. Again I was using this just fine last night.

I decided to run my spyware and antivirus programs to see if maybe I got something that was causing problems. Ad-aware just found some tracking cookies and spybot found nothing. When I went to update AVG anti spyware though before I scanned with it I was unable to download and update. I still at this time cannot. It just continues to say failed to recieve update.

I'm really lost here guys and could use any help possible. It will be greatly appreciated.

    Randy

    Hi rage66621!
    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please go ahead and work through the READ & RUN ME FIRST
Since you've already run Combofix, you don't need to run it again. Note those instructions which are specific to your operating system and when you finish, please post the requested logs to us. This will give us a better picture of what might be amiss in your machine.

    Thanks.

Already went through the read and run me first section. I didn't scan with AVG Anti-Spyware though however because it was unable to download the update. I will attach the log files that I do have though.

Have attempted 3 times now to upload the logs that I do have as attachments and always end up getting Internet explorer cannot display the webpage... after a minute or two

    Hi rage66621,
Sorry for your difficulties with the attachments. Try emptying your browser cache or using a different browser. Also, be sure to check the Remember Me box when you log on.

Problem solved I believe... I cycled my modem and router and things seem to be working fine again.

If someone would like to take a look at those log files though and see if it looks like there is anything wrong though I would really appreciate it.

    Thanks
    Randy

    Hi rage66621!

Glad you found an easy solution. Your logs look good. You have one hijackthis entry 023 which is a Symantec service. I you want to turn it off do the following:
    • Click on Start, then Run ... type services.msc into the box that opens up, and press 'OK'.
    • On the page that opens, scroll down to Symantec Core LC
    • then right click the entry, select Properties and press Stop Service.
    • When it shows that it is stopped, next please set the Start-up Type to 'Disabled'.
    • Click OK until you get back to Windows.
    • Next, run HJT (it will now be called analyse.exe and you will find it inside the MGTools folder of your root drive), but instead of scanning, click on the None of the above, just start the program button at the bottom of the choices.
    • At the lower right, click on the Config button
    • Then click the Misc tools button
    • Select Delete an NT Service
    • Copy/paste Symantec Core LCinto the box that opens, and press OK
    • If you receive any error messages just ignore them and continue.
    • Now exit HJT but do not reboot.
Now run HJT/analyse.exe (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIXuntil you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O23 - Service: Symantec Core LC - Symantec Corporation - C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exe

(It may not be there. If not, just close the program.)

Now you can run the final clean-up instructions:

Things look good, the cleanup went great. Thanks much for the help.
