    I downloaded some program I thought was necessary to watch streaming video from a website, and ever since then my computer has been seriously infested with malware. I've run several programs removing them but they always keep coming back -

    there's some program that seems to access and maybe download malware from different sites. Randomly when I do a google search or go to a website I'll get a popup that warns me of unauthorized connection attempted to some website that's known to distribute or infest with malware (always a different site)

    Please help if you can - thank you so much

    1. Important Notice: A new version of SUPERAntiSpyware is available.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this log later.

    2. If you do not use Windows Messenger Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

    3. Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UserFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -u
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
    O4 - Startup: LimeWire On Startup.lnk = C:\Program Files\LimeWire\LimeWire.exe <--- I refuse to have Limewire running especially at startup while I am assisting you here in the malware forum.
    O4 - Global Startup: McAfee Security Scan.lnk = ? <--- This doesn't need to run either because you have Symantec Endpoint Protection installed.

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    4. Now I need you to download and run Combofix as per the instructions below:

    Windows XP Cleaning Procedure

    5. Now go to this MGTools and download the new version of MGtools.exe. Overwrite your previous MGtools.exe file with this one.

    6. Run the new MGTools.exe and attach the C:\Mglogs.zip that it generates into your next reply as well as the log from the new version of SAS and the C:\combofix.txt

    Thanks for responding! I did all of the changes, but when I was running combofix I had to disable my cd rom, and when I restarted I couldn't connect to the internet, and midway through the scan my antivirus program came back on. It asked to block combofix, but I said no - the internet also reconnected. I'm not sure if that caused any problems but wanted you to know

    1. Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:

    KILLALL::

    DirLook::
    c:\temp\SEP
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\Test

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint
    c:\program files\Gameztar Toolbar
    c:\documents and settings\T-Bot\Local Settings\Application Data\Gameztar Toolbar

    RegLock::
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software\DeterministicNetworks\DNE\Parameters]
    "SymbolicLinkValue"=hex(6):5c,00,52,00,65,00,67,00,69,00,73,00,74,00,72,00,79,
       00,5c,00,4d,00,61,00,63,00,68,00,69,00,6e,00,65,00,5c,00,53,00,79,00,73,00,\

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      [IMG]

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    2. Now run GMER as per these instructions:

    GMER - Running with a random name.

    3. Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also attach the log from Combofix. and gmer.

    I ran GMER and accidentally pressed ok instead of save. When I tried to run it again, I got a BSOD that said

    PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
    stop 0x00000050 (0xE79A7000, 0x00000000, 0xA54A8C3E, 0x00000001)
    uftdqpow.sys address A54A8C3E base at A54A8000 datestamp 4b274f82

    I restarted and tried running it again, and I got another blue screen saying

    system process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000005 (0x00000000, 0x00000001)
    STOP c000021a windows logon process 0xc0000005

    My other logs are attached as requested

    I am not seeing anything else in your logs. How is the computer behaving now?
