Bad User Account Shuts Down XP

I am attempting to help someone whose User Account DMS) has craped out. When logging in to this account their background pic comes up and then the system reboots. She created another user account (George) which works but she can not pull up pictures she has under documents and settings\DMS where her pictures are stored. Her Kodak Easyshare software does show thumbs of her photos but when trying to retrieve them it gives an error that the picture in the DMS folder had been moved. When I try to look at the folder through Explorer I get the message "C:\documents and settings\DMS is not accessible" "Access is denied".

I ran all of the steps 1-6 suggested and all of the programs found a slew of problems that were quarantined and deleted. MS Defender was downloaded but it was disabled by some malware and so is the XP firewall. Even so, I still can not get that user account DMS to work. I just want, at this point, to download the pictures and do a fresh install of XP.

She has XP home SP2
Dell Demension 2400, P4 2.8ghz, 512mb, 40gb

Any help is greatly appreciated. It seems these pictures are of family, some of whom are no longer with her, so they have great sentimental value to her.

If all you are wanting to do is access the account and rescue any files that may be salvageable, download the Knoppix Live CD create a bootable CD from the image, boot the computer with it. You should now be able to access everything on the drive and copy the files to a CD or thumb drive.
