    Hello,

I am having a few problems with 2 computers that are Cabled together.
I the host computer have recently formatted and I haven't managed to get the 2 computers 100% right since.

I have followed the tutorials and i am too new to networking to understand - sorry!

    Here's some info:

    Both systems have different names

Both systems are running windows xp professional sp2

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    Host computer TCP/IP Properties:

    Ip : 192.168.0.1
    Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway: BLANK

Use the following DNS Server adresses:

    Preferred: BLANK
    Alternate: BLANK

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    Client Computer is using DHCP
    (automatically detect setting (for all)

I tried to type in IP: 192.168.0.2 and Subnet 255.255.255.0
and left the rest of the details the same as the hosts - All this does is cause errors on the client computer and the client computer can't connect to the internet or see the host comp in workgroup so i canged the settings back to 'automatically detect settings'

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

The internet runs fine on both this way.

We are both using Windows Firewall

    --------------------------------------------------------------------

    Problems:

    * We can't see each others shared documents *

    * Client computer can't access Host computer through workgroup but the host can access the Client computer *

Error message from client computer when trying to access host computer:

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

\\ic3man is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions.

    Access is Denied.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm sorry if this is a stupid question but i'm learning slowly.....

Any advice would be greatly appreciated :)

    Thanks

    mallett

Are you running any other firewalls besides win xp

If the user names on both are different try adding the user name from the client to the host and set the privialages as you need them and when you log in to the client you should be able to access the host.

And also make shure you have shared the files approprately on the host and add the client user name to the access rights.

What workgroup(s) are these machines in? They should both be in the same workgroup. I haven't seen any evidence of such here.
What about shared folders? Instead of going through the workgroup, I would find the folders you wish to share, right click them, and select sharing and security. Check the box beside Share this folder on the network. It should then appear in My Network Places for both computers.

PS way to trophy-whore there, catbro! :p Seriously, that's impressive!

The first thing you should do is disable both windows firewalls to eliminate that as the problem, after your done and everyting works you can enable them if you want to and go from there
