Benefits of 4gb of ram

When i bought my laptop i chose the bigger hard drive and the lower ram assuming i'd update at a later date, this is exactly what i did. I used the scanner at crucial.com and was told i could have 2 lots of 2gb, although i did understand that windows 32bit would only recognise 3gb. Still i thought i'd go ahead and buy it.

My question is, am i getting the whole benefit from this ram, as sometimes when i have multiple windows open i'm told that my computer is low on memory. Is there anything i can 'adjust' to gain more memory if you like.

Please be aware i have some computer knowledge but nothing like the MajorGeeks!

Hope you can help, please ask questions if i havent made sense.

 

how much ram is showing in computer properties?

you mention 32bit but not the actual version ie vista or xp?


also some computer knowledge, enough to list some system specs such as cpu ram speed timings etc?

So,do you buy 4gb?If yes it's waste of money.XP maybe cover 3.5 gb.But if you have 3x1gb you will lose dual channel.

 

i have 2 x 2gb i only have 2 slots, what would you recommend?

WOW,something is steal your memory.maybe a program in the background,or malware.From what I see you have 4096 mb physical memory but available 1950mb.What programs do you have on startup?
