I have downloaded a film in .avi format and it plays well on my pc. What I want to know is what format do I need it in so that I can burn it on to a cd and be able to play it in my standalone Dvd player so that I can watch it on Tv. Any ideas?? :)

That depends. Do you want to burn the .avi video to a DVD disc or a regular CD disc?

If it's a regular computer data CD then you have to change the .avi video to VCD or SVCD format. A program called TMPGEnc can convert .avi video's to VCD and SVCD in order for it to play in a DVD player. You can only get 80 minutes on one CD though. A two hour movie would require 2 CD's.

As for a DVD disc, I'm not too sure. I've never done it before. I don't have a DVD burner. I think that it can be put on a DVD disc in .avi format using the DIVX codec. I think.

Someone else with reply with the answer.

Seeing as the .avi file is only 700.4mbs then I would prefer to put it on a cd rather than a dvd. I want to be able to put it in the Dvd player and for it to play like a normal film. I was not sure what format I would need to convert it to so that it would play like that.
