I am running a DSL connection at my home. Out here in the county, your choices are DSL or HughesNet satellite, which is slower than DSL and a lot more expensive. DSL is pretty slow too -- 1.47Mbps download speed, .51Mbps upload, .36ms ping. Streaming video is painful. We have Netflix, Hulu and Amazon Prime, but a half hour show can take up to an hour. Would a mobile hotspot be better? Most advertise much higher speeds than 1.47! But it's always "up to 4Mbps" or whatever, never "guaranteed to run at 4Mbps." Any experiences, warnings or recommendations out there?

Any issues you have with cellular phone reception will be an issue with your mobile hotspot. They have data caps and a couple of Netflix movies will easily burn through 5GB. Data is considerably more expensive.
