Better free firewall--SYGATE 5.6 or ZONEALARM 4.5.594

Hi,which of these 2 firewalls is more secure? We know zonealarm has updated versions since 4.5.594,but many have reported problems with the 5x versions.
Zonealarm has a nice tray icon that shows it`s working-----does sygate have a tray icon that shows it`s working also?

they both are good, comes down to personal preference.

and sygate does have a icon that shows internet activity and when your being attacked.

I happen to be one of those that likes sygate better, I even paid for it

 

Have to agree with you. Tried both plus tiny personal firewall. (That one was sweet)
Used ZA for a while, but better performance with sygate.

 

ZA is a bit more user friendly and visually pleasing than sygate. So if you are looking for simple, easy to use protection than go with ZA. As for which provides the most protection...that's debatable.

 

Addendum: Just tested out both free versions against ShieldsUP!. ZA passed with no problem, while Sygate failed the TCP portion of the test. You may want to test each one on your system and see which performs best for you.

I'm former user of ZA version 4.5, the newer presented some problem's, I wouldnt say it's any more user friendly than Sygate, the only advantage is more info provided thru web links on programs/etc wanting internet access, which is moot point if the user has problems.

Sygate IMO is the way ta go, I consider it user friendly & more pleasing to the eye.

It's not just a matter of opinion, ZA has much more program information than Sygate, which can be a great help for most users.

However, they are both great firewalls and much is just down to user preference.

I would suggest AGNITUM OUTPOST.

 

I like zonealarm personally. I know more people who use variations of firewalls and even I have and I just ended up using this one because it's free and more importantly I tested it on my cpu and it seems most secure for my system. At first I used to use the pro version but then I just ended up with the free version and I gotta say it's quite secure. In the end nothings a 100% but it is at least the best for my system.
