I friend of mine has asked for help in removing "Bikini.exe" as he is unable to connect to the internet. I installed ZoneAlarm and Spybot S&D. I used ZoneAlarm to block Bikini.exe but Spybot S&D (which I loaded from a disk where I copied S&D from my hard drive) won't run a search without the update which I can't get because of no internet connection.
He is running Windows98 and Bikini.exe resides in C:\windows\system.
Cannot simply delete the file as it is being used by windows.
Any info which may lead me in the correct direction would be appreciated as this friend of mine is also my employer.

    Thank you in advance,
    Roadcaptain

Have you tried booting into safe mode to delete it?

Another option as you are able to transfer files from your computer.

Download - Pocket KillBox it is small enough you can put it on a floppy to move it to the other computer.

Run Killbox.exe on the infected computer....Paste the full file directory example: C:\Windows\System\Bikini.exe into KILL BOX. Check mark the box that says "Delete on Reboot" and check mark the box "Unregister DLL" (If available) Click the RED X and it will ask you to confirm the file for deletion…say YES and when the next box opens prompting you to reboot now, click YES and it will reboot.

If Killbox does not reboot or you get a Pending Operations type error message just reboot your PC yourself.

Now, If the above gets rid of the file and internet access is restored your friend should run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

When you return to make your next post, make sure you
attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)

    Bitdefender
    Panda Scan
    HijackThis

    Good Luck!:)

Thank you for your response. I have yet to find out if he was successful in getting reconnected or if he has completed the "Read & run me 1st". If I am able to get him to communicate I may be posting more info.
    Thanks again Abby Sue
