Hi - first time here, read thru a lot of threads and am guessing I have the Black Internet Virus (wave setting muted, IE popups while using Firefox).

Went thru the "do this first" stuff (cleaning computer, etc).

    Appreciate any help!

    Here is bootkit remover log

    \\.\C: -> \\.\PhysicalDrive0
    MD5: b6305d935ffe3d2c88fbdca980abf6be

    Size Device Name MBR Status
    --------------------------------------------
149 GB \\.\PhysicalDrive0 Unknown boot code

Unknown boot code has been found on some of your physical disks.
To inspect the boot code manually, dump the master boot sector:
    remover.exe dump <device_name> [output_file]
To disinfect the master boot sector, use the following command:
    remover.exe fix <device_name>

    I've attached the MGlogs zip

You really need to tidy up your desktop, but we will deal with this later...

Please download MBRCheck to your desktop

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some data on it
    • Right click on the screen and select > Select All
    • Press Control+C
    • Open a notepad and press Control+V
    • now please copy that report to this thread

What can you tell me about this start-up entry seen in your logs?

Viewpoint Media Player <--- Uninstall this via add/remove programs. Also uninstall the below outdated java:

    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 15
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 2
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 5

If you did not set this proxy yourself then please include it in our below fixables:

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Now use windows explorer to find and delete the following files:
Download a fresh version of combofix and run it directly from your desktop.

Also delete all files in the below bold folder except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).

Reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this and also include the report from MBRCheck.exe.

Do you have all important data backed up? You really should do this before continuing since we will need to rewrite your MBR to fix this and while most times this can be done without any problem, these infections can react badly and that could result in a PC not being bootable. Again you really don't have much choice though since these infections are too dangerous to your security to leave on a PC.

To complete the below instructions, you will need to move remover.exe directly into your Desktop folder. You currently ran it from here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Chris W\Desktop\bootkit_remover\remover.exe

Now it must be locate like this:
    C:\Documents and Settings\Chris W\Desktop\remover.exe

Now if you have important data backup up and understand the above warning - please do the following:
    • Click Start, Run then copy and paste the below into the Run box and click OK.
    "%userprofile%\Desktop\remover.exe" fix \\.\PhysicalDrive0
    • Now reboot your PC and after reboot continue with the below instructions.
    • Disable System Restore on all drives.
    • Look for the below folder and if if it sill exists, delete it.
      • C:\System Volume Information\Microsoft
    • If you cannot access or find the above folder, just continue on.
    • Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

      Then attach the below logs:
      • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    You're logs are clean.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. You should now enable System Restore that we had disabled.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
