    Hi friends,
    I am Amit from India.
I have two problems on my laptop.

First - I have two blank icons on my control panel, I am not sure what they are? They don't give any option other then to create a shortcut and when I tried to do that it gives an error message "Windows cannot create a desktop shortcut.Check to see if the disk is full".
Disk is not full there's around 40 GB free on C drive and more than 15 GB free on the D drive.

Second - Whenever I save any picture and edit it using ACDsee a hidden folder "Originals" is created on the desktop. What is that?

The pictures of both the problems is uploaded as attachment. Please check it.

    Kind Regards:
    Amit

I am not seeing much in your logs. However, let's have you use windows explorer to find and delete:
    c:\windows\SC66D0A23(60).tmp
    c:\windows\SC66D0A23.tmp

Reboot, run CCLeaner and tell me what malware issues you still have.

    Unable to delete "c:\windows\SC66D0A23.tmp"

Thanks for your time and efforts mate.
I have deleted the first one "c:\windows\SC66D0A23(60).tmp.

But I am not able to delete the second file "c:\windows\SC66D0A23.tmp".
I have tried deleting it but I am getting an error "Windows can't complete the action as the file is open in another program". I have stopped all the processess which I know are not critical for Windows to run but still getting the same error.
I tried deleting it in Safe Mode, was able to delete the file but as soon as I restarted in Normal Mode the file was back again.
I tried this 2-3 times with same result, file comes back as soon as the system is restarted.

Please tell me how to delete this file.

And regarding any other problem, I don't have any problem as such just the icons on the Control Panel bothers me ( I hope you have seen the picture attached with my first message).

P.S. - My Windows Media Player has also stopped working but I don't think that has anything to do with Malware, etc.

    Regards:
    Amit

You may have to post in the software forum for the issues of your desktop folder and the apparently empty folders in your control panel. But first try going to this file and right click it, choose rename, and add an .old to the end of it so you have:
    c:\windows\SC66D0A23.tmp.old

Are you saying that those two items in the control panel only have the one option when you right click it to choose a short cut? This is strange. But I don't think it is malware related.

Tell me if anything is affected when you renamed that file.

    Hi mate,
I tried renaming the file like you said but no use, it's giving the error "The action can't be completed as the file is opened in another program. Close the program and try again".
Then I rebooted in Safe Mode and renamed the file and it was done. But when I restarted the system in Normal Mode there I found two files, one the old one "c:\windows\SC66D0A23.tmp" and other the new one which I renamed in Safe mode to "c:\windows\SC66D0A23.tmp.old". Means the renaming created another file, it didn't affect the old one. I have deleted the renamed file but the original one I am unable to delete as earlier.

Yes I mean that those two Icons are giving only one option to create a shortcut and that also not able to complete it and giving error ""Windows cannot create a desktop shortcut.Check to see if the disk is full".

These icons are shown only when I choose the option of Classic view of Control Panel, if I am using Control Panel Home these two icons are not visible. I am using Windows Vista Home Premium 32 Bit (you must be knowing it but still giving just in case).

Can't tell if anything is affected by the renaming of the file as the renaming wasn't successful.

One more thing I would like to tell you, in Normal Mode my C: drive is showing free space of 40 GB but in Safe Mode it's showing free space of 41.9 GB, is this normal?

And will it be OK for me to uninstall/delete the programs installed for completing the process given in "Read Me First"? And I also want to defrag my Hard Drive and delete the old restoration points, will it be safe to do it now or should I wait till these problems are resolved? If it is safe to uninstall/delete please tell me how to do it.

And last question, if it's a software related problem, should I create a seprate topic under the software section or you will transter this topic to the software section?

Thanks for your time and efforts.

    Kind Regards:
    Amit

You should start a fresh topic in the software forum. You can always refer back to this thread if needed.

Since that file is recreated, I suspect it may be a legit file as there is nothing else showing in your logs as far as malware is concerned. You could always do an online scan:

    http://www.superantispyware.com/onlinescan.html

Reboot immediately after scanning if it finds and removes anything. Let me know if anything was found. It does not save a log.

And to remove the scanning tools, please follow these procedures:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real-time protection. They are useful as backup scanners. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    5. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    6. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    7. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to tahe cleaning procedures ian step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore ato create a new clean Restore Point.
    8. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
