    History of the problem.

Computer smelled of burning. Turned off but when rebooted nothing happened – no lights or sounds. Diagnosed as power supply failure. Replaced this but no change so further testing proved motherboard, graphics card and all three disks damaged! CD and DVD drives OK and the memory was exhaustively tested on and off the system and found to be fine. Processor OK as well.

New motherboard graphics cards and disks installed and all drivers updated to the latest versions. XP Pro re-installed.

All this was done by a computer professional

System now Asus A8R-MVP plus Athlon 3800+ with a GeForce 7300GT.
    2 GB of RAM.
XP Professional Service Pack 2 plus all updates

Software running on the machine includes Kasperski Anti-virus 6
    Spyware Doctor 5.0.0.184
    Zone Alarm (free)
    WinPatrol

Intermittent fault now occurs in that a blue screen of death appears on boot up while loading Windows. Only happens every few days and the reboot works OK – making it difficult to determine cause as any changes made could not be proved to rectify the situation without spending weeks and weeks on the testing!

When the system booted up today after this problem happened again Windows displayed a message box which said “The system has recovered from a serious error and a log has been created.

    Error signature

    BCCode : 10000050 BCP1 : 8B1D769C BCP2 : 00000001 BCP3 : 8918701D
    BCP4 : 00000000 OSVer : 5_1_2600 SP : 2_0 Product : 256_1

It offered to send the log to Microsft which I diud but checked before to see what was sent

Contents of Microsoft Error report was

    C:\DOCUME~1\PAUL\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERd785.dir00\Mini051507-01.dmp
    C:\DOCUME~1\PAUL\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERd785.dir00\sysdata.xml

At this stage Kasperski reported a suspicious action “Suspicious driver installation”

    Running process (PID:2568)

    C:\Program Files\Spyware Doctor\swdsvc.exe

Process is trying to install driver and gain full access to operating system. Security control will not be available any more)

I allowed this process – hopefully correctly!

Reported error to Microsoft whereupon Microsoft error reporting opened up and said

    “Problem caused by Device Driver
You received this message because a device driver installed on your computer caused the Windows operating system to stop unexpectedly.”

    Microsoft help page is http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=322205

Any ideas of what is causing the problem would be much appreciated – bearing in mind I am not very technically competent!

    Thanks
