boot to floppy/cd

running xp pro : wanting to update my bios. I cannot boot to floppy to install. floppy light comes on at post but OS takes over and windows loads. same thing for cd. bios boot sequence is floppy, optical device, hard drive, network. network is disabled as well. thanks in advance.

 

Silly question...is it a bootable floppy?
How did you create it?

downloaded bios update from sony
created floppy from .exe prog told to reboot but floppy drive doesn't kick in b4 windows takes over. did i answer your question?

 

Just a thought, is A: set to be the first drive in the boot sequence in the BIOS, also check the floppy in explorer and make sure it has command.com ect. on it.

bios sequence is fine can you explain the explorer check for me. thank you

 

Make sure Explorer is set to view hidden files, put the floppy in, open My Computer and double click on A:, this will bring up the Explorer window listing all of the files.

You should see:

1. command.com
2. config.sys
3. autoexec.bat
4. msdos.sys (or similar)
   [/list=1]
   If those files are not there, then it is not a bootable floppy.
