Hi Maureen, I just returned from by vacation. I was hoping that someone else may be able to continue with you while I was gone, but this thread was just too long for others to pickup what was being done. It is still not looking like we can fix this but see below.

Yes I did. See message # 42. Please complete this.

If Sony is allowing you to download the ISO files for burning Vista DVDs for your PC, you should try to do this and make a DVD. You may want to also ask them if there is a factory recovery partition because as I stated previously, it looks like you have one that you could use to restore to factory state if we cannot remove the malware (which is more than likely the case).

Welcome back!! I have a question for you.... what if I took this as a message from the Gods that I should upgrade to Windows 7- I saw a Vista to Windows 7 upgrade option on the internet for $64.99. Would that make my problems go away and hopefully bring me back to a place better than I started from?
    thanks!

I'm not sure whether an "upgrade" would fix the problem. During an upgrade, the problem could just remain or spread into the new version of Windows. A reinstall of the original Windows or a new install of a new version of Windows would be safer.

    Chaslang,

I am unsure of how to reinstall windows Vista without the CDs, although I believe you stated in an earlier post that I should have a backup version of my O/S already on my system. I saw I can order another copy of the recovery CDs online for my Sony Vaio PC. Should I start there?

    Thanks!

By using the Recovery Partition that I already mentioned you may have based on your logs. You need to check your documentation or check with the PC vendor. If you have this partition, it will restore you to factory ship state. You need to investigate this. I never use a Sony PC but the below info may or may not apply to yours:

No. You should start with the Recovery Partition since you may already be able to do this. And if you want to eventually get CD/DVDs for your PC, make sure you get one that actually is a real Vista Boot DVD so that you can fix problems with the Operating System in the future.
