Browser stops, then restarts when trying to download

    I have a new computer with Vista and Norton running. Yahoo is my browser. When I try to download something, Yahoo shuts down, I lose the internet connection, and then Yahoo starts again. I am new to Vista and Norton both. Could someone point me in the right direction so I can turn off whatever is turned on?
