    Hi,

I have actually reached the end of the road now, and have tried and researched everthing i can think of, my problem is this.

Just before christmas my brother downloaded and opened a file that clearly was no good (am not talking to him at the moment) the file instantly installed some malware onto my machine.

I ran all my programs and cleaned it up within a few hours annoying but fixed, well thats what i thought. Now my machine is getting BSOD with a stop code of:

    0x0000008e (0xc0000005,0x80a833db,0xf76edc90,0x00000000)

I get this after about 5 minutes of the machine being on. I cant believe that its bad memory (however i have no facts to base that on, i just am really hoping its not).

my research kinda brought me to thinking that it may be some undetectable Rootkit but again im really just guessing.

Just to note, after i fixed my malware problem and discovered the bsod issue i ran a windows repair on the box which appeared to fix my problem for a few days untill i ran my windows update (id not installed any updates after the repair for those few days) then as soon as the SP1 was on the box i started to get the BSOD problem again

If i start up in safe mode with networking i still get the problem however it seems ok in just plain old basic safemode.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and i hope someone can shed some light on my issue.

    my box is a gx150
with 256mb ram (basic i know)

    thanks again

PS ill add my HJT log below
    [ammended sorry will attach it]

    Welcome to MajorGeeks.com!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis:

    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
    • CounterSpy
    • AVG Antispyware Log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
    • Bitdefender - from step 6
    • Panda Scan - from step 6
    • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
    • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
    • HijackThis

    Hi,

Apologies for not following the procedures, I have run all the required programs and the found nothing however i didnt create a log so im re-running them so as to obtain the logs to post.

i have an issue though with running the online scanners or avg as the only way to do this is either safe mode with networking for the online scanners and normal mode for avg however useing either of these two modes only gives me 5 minutes before I recieve the BSOD issue and the computer needs restarting.

Please could you let me know how i could get around this

    Cheers

This doesn't appear to be a malware problem.

    What have you installed/changed recently?

Power down the PC, disconnect it from the power. Open the case clean out the dust with a soft bristle brush and a can of compressed air. Make sure all the expansion cards and RAM are seated properly. The Air flow the CPU is not blocked and the CPU is seated correctly.

Download Memtest86+, create the bootable CD or the bootable floppy if your system has a floppy drive. Boot from the Memtest86+ disk and run a RAM test.

This is a Hardware problem and may be caused by corrupt drivers or a piece of Hardware going bad.
