    :wave Hi Guys & Gals,

Before I get myself into trouble :cry I thought I would ask for some direction.

This is the first time I have built a PC. Done some minor stuff before, exchanging parts.

Now I would like to build something that will stay up to date for a while and not play up when trying to play new FPS type games. I'm looking foward to giving it a go.

I have researched and selected the components that I think will do the job, but after I have assembled the machine I don't know what to do from there. I have a feeling it's not as simple as firing it up, entering into the BIOS, setting it to boot from the DVD drive, inserting the windows DVD and rebooting.

It's probably obvious that I'm a newby, so could someone give me some direction please and make me aware of any pitfalls I may encounter. confused

If this is too big for this forum, tell me to buy a book.

My expected specs of the new machine:

Power: Antec truepower trio 650w ATX power supply.
    CPU: intel core 2 duo e6750 2.66ghz 4m cache 1333fsb LGA 775.
MOBO: ASUS p5k intel p35 chipset socket 775.
    HDD: 2 of SeaGate 320 gig 7200rpm SATA-2 NCQ 16meg Cache 7200.10.
    RAM: Corsair 4GB (4x 1GB) DDR2 667 (PC5300 - VS2GBKIT667D2).
Vid Card: Innovision (Inno3d) nVidia Geforce 8800GTX 768mb PCI Express.
DVD: Pioneer DVR-212 SATA 18x DVD Burner.
Mouse: Logitech G5 Corded Laser Mouse.
Monitor: Samsung 226BW 22" Widescreen LCD Monitor.
Speakers: Logitech X-530 5.1 speaker set 140watt total peak power.
Op/system: Windows Vista Home premium 64bit DVD Edition.

Thanks for your help and advice

actually, it really is pretty simple. When i built mine 2 years ago i did exactly what you said. Sometimes it may take a little BIOS tweaking like u mentioned though its usually nothing

and that build looks near perfect, i wouldnt change anything. very nice

It's reassuring that you think the setup is okay.
    Appreciate your feedback.
Your user name, are you into Vipers of the Dodge type?
