Its a good start to a list of conponets. And I cant say I can offer much advise on most of the boards (Still researching some of that stuff myself)

Anyways, the thing I can help you with is the case and fans.

    Recommend: http://www.xoxide.com/pccases.html

Many of these cases come with decent cooling, but not substantial. I just went to my local computer store and picked up one of the larger Xaser cases from Thermaltake. And boy was I pleased with it. It didnt look as cool as some of the others, but it's sturdy and it keeps the computer cool. (about 32*C on average) The only downsides I've found is Weight and Noise. (5X case fans running at once will do that)

If you dont care about noise, Definetly splurge on a case with a lot of cooling fans.

Anyways, the case that you want has to be one that sits your needs.

Plastic: Often lighter, more fragile, but can look really cool if well made
Steel: Strong, durable, but heavy (not transport friendly)
Alluminum: Strong, light, a good choice but harder to find. (more expensive sometimes too)
Acrylic: Meh, some people like the look of it.

    Other downsides are

Small cases: May or may not be big enough to hold motherboard or ample airflow, but it's portable

Large cases: Vise/versa. More likely to hold what you want, but harder for transport.

    Planning for a gaming machine?

Processor-- AMD Athlon 64 (skt 939) 3000+ and up

Mem-- Corsair/Kingston ValueSelect is fine 1GB of it..

    CD-ROM/RW-- any Plextor is fine

floppy-- Get a Sony... best there are

case-- ASPIRE, Thermaltake, Coolermaster all make good cases NOTE : GET A MID/FULL SIZED CASE, not micro ATX or shuttle

Mobo--ASUS A8N-E or for SLI, DFI LanParty SLI-DR

SoundCard-- I game and i cant tell the diff. ALC850 onboard is excellent

modem-- I suppose you'll be using cable/dsl? No modem needed. Its onboard

Video Card-- PowerColor X800GT 256MB GDDR3 PCIe, can be flashed to X850Pro

HDD-- That one you listed is fine

CPU FAN-- Stock HSF is fine

PSU-- The one you listed is fine

Fans-- You dont really need any, as long as the case includes at least one front intake and one rear exhaust.

Hehe Im anal about cooling so ive got one intake in sidepanel, one exhaust on top, one intake in front, one exhaust in back, an Arctic Cooling ATI Silencer 5 Rev. 2 on my video card and just a stock CPU cooler due to insane temps, even when OC'd!

Any more Q's, we'll be happy to answer them!

    Another fan of thermaltake products.

the only thing I'd change about that setup is

Floppy: Is sony really nessasary? I mean, who uses floppy anymore. Its all becoming cd, dvd, or flash drive. Sonys good but usually more expensive.

Modem: Even if you're using dsl/cable, having any kind of 56k modem in the comp is comforting in case the cable goes ot for an extended period. But these are cheap. If you have an old computer and are starting over with a new one, just remove the old modem and put it in the new one.

You cant use that video card in that mobo. The vid card is PCIe and the mobo supports only AGP 8x...

Why not go with an AMD system?

For ur keyboard id reccomend the Saitek Eclipse or Logitech G15 keyboards, much better than those other illumintaed keyboards( they are almost never full sized) and the soundcard you would be better off going with creative. Also, the speakers, Creative, Logitech, or Klipsh (more expensive). I have the same proc as the one ur getting and love it, very fast. And for video cards, my preference is Nvidia (6800 'vanilla', gs, gt, ultra); more pipelines, buta lil more expensive and lower clock speeds but has GDDR3 RAM, good for overclocking  If you you arent planning on cramming your hdd full of crap then Western Digital makes great drives, most notably the Raptor (10,000rpm :) but only 74 gigs ) Ok, thats my reccomendations, good luck with ur build and have fun.

I have Intel d865perl mb. 3.0(prescott) with sock intel hs & fan in an Aspire X NAVIGATOR case, 120 seagate & 2- 512's Kingston value ram, and it works like a charm and temps at idle are 27-28C.
I think you're on the right track

Creative has great speakers for great prices. You can get them at Newegg for like 50 bucks for a 5.1 system and 85 for 7.1 which i have, Inspire P7800 and they are incredible

no one is noticing that the 630 chip is the socket 775. 64 bit chip that DOES NOT come in socket 478 you can get a 3. gig prescot but its not the 64 bit variety check carefully before you buy a 630

Ok... Im only going to do this ONCE.. Heres two setups.. a more expensive INTEL based setup.. and an AMD setup(recommended, as it is far better for gaming)

    INTEL:
    Intel P4 Prescott 2.80EGHz 800MHz FSB Socket 478
    ASUS P4P800-VM i865G
1GB Corsair Dual Channel Kit DDR400
    9600XT 128MB

Around $500 just for that, the above is not a HIGH quality system either (its rather mid range) Cannot play such games as DOOM3, FEAR and etc on high settings

    AMD:

AMD Athlon 64 3000+ (Venice core) Mad overclock on these babies ($135-150)

Mobo's - NON SLI: ASUS A8N-E ($100ish) Not SLI capable
    SLI CAPABLE: ASUS A8N-SLI ($130ish) SLI Capable (8x 8x)
Multi Monitor dual video card setup availible : DFI NF4 Ultra-D ($125ish)

    Corsair 1GB Dual Channel kit DDR400 PC3200 ($80ish)

    PowerColor X800GT 256MB ($130-150) (Not SLI availible)
    ---------------------
TOTAL (depending on the mobo chosen) high $400's to low $500's

This is a rather high end system for the money, will be able to handle all the latest games and is very "future" upgradable. CAN Play games such as DOOM3 and FEAR, etc. on high settings.

All this is my 2cents.. but from the computers ive used and manufacturers, the lists above are no cheap parts.. They are all high quality.

If it was up to me, i would go with AMD (but thats just because im an AMD4LIFE guy...)

Why a 52x cd-rom drive? I've got a Lite-On lightscribe multi-format DVD writer. Very smooth and quiet mechanism, and physically compact for an internal drive, so it doesn't stick out the back of the drive bay
