' C:\ProgramData ' folder went AWOL!

The previously hidden folder ' C:\ProgramData ' has gone AWOL!

I can not find it anywhere in C:\ company!
It just vanished w/o a trace!
The story goes;
I was moving files in and out then it disappeared.
Even though other hidden files are there!

And it seems programs that use this folder still work fine.

I Re-coned the web in search of a fix,
I also tried numerous covert searches in the PC itself, looking in list pane, detail pane, pain in the A**.......

Some good news, I did spy on it deep in the dreaded registry, down in the hole known as HKEY_LOCAL_Machine.............

I also tried a risky maneuver known as C prompt,
I found if I enter the elusive ' cd \programdata ' in the command prompt the folder will show itself, then I can enter the code ' dir ' and it will then show all its contents.

Since the folder opens we know it is there.

In folder options are you certain that you have the "Hide operating system files (recommended)" box UNchecked? As Plodr said it is different and separate from ticking the circle for Show Hidden Files.

 

Yes, I am sure! I just verified it by going through Win Explorer > tools > view > folder opts.

Here is some more news from the front:
(I don't know if these are related or not)

1) I'm having a hard time installing Office 2010 Pro. Plus Repeatedly throws error code 1920 (yes I'm the Admin, I ran it as Admin, & have changed the security settings)

2) Apparently, the 'Away Mode System' does not work with Win 7 x64, But I can not find it in BIOS to turn it off.

3) If I enter ' %programdata% ' in the Run box it will show up like an old friend in all its glory. BUT it still will not show under C:

*(just throwing these things out there)

Could it have Morphed into ' Application Data ' ????????
