Can virus/worms infect a Drive Image or Ghost image file located on the same hard drive, either in the same or differnet partition? Or, do I have to have it physically removed, i.e. on a cd or dvd.

They could infect anything that they were designed to infect which may include images like that. It may be unlikely that they do, but it is not impossible. It would be safer to have your images backed up and not in the system.
