Can anyone double check me on this?

I'm having trouble running BF42 on my laptop and it just seems that I should be able to run it beautifully with what I got.I'm getting a lot of choppy play with low pings and, since I restored, I'm now getting large jagged edges. I have just updated my video drivers and that doesnt seem to work. And I don't know if it would be beneficial (if not hurtful) to download the newer DirectX driver (9.b) So I left the original of 8.1 alone. My refresh is set at 75 Mhz and my HD is fully defragged yet still is a choppy game. Can anyone shed me some light?My sys specs are:

P4 2 Ghz
40GB HD
512MB DDR RAM (possibly more I cant remember if I upgraded)
32MB DDR NVidia Geforce 460 Go

HI Tarstan, looks like your graphics are a possible bottleneck
That being said i would reccomend upgrading too DX9, furthermore to improve my laptop gaming experience, i make sure i close all unnessary apps that are running and ive trimmed my XP services to the bare minimum

From there you can disable any services that you are not using, use this link for a description of each one

As for the Geforce go, im not too sure how much you can tweak it, might be worth trying something like NVHardpage

If your not sure what you are doing there is an automatic Performance wizard you can use

i agree that the graphics would be a bottleneck, but i doubt that card is dx9 compatible (wouldn't use its 'features'). why would upgrading to dx9 be beneficial?

 

I think you're right about the graphics card bottleneck. A few people I've talked to say that it's not a great card. I don't get how I can play every other game I have with no problems though. Oh, and one more thing. I DLed Everest last night to find out how hot my system is running while playing BF42. It registered at about 180 degrees. Specs seem to indicate that it shouldn't run too far over 95 and I can't imagine that doubling it would be very good. I did take a look at the program you told me about and it's going to bring in a whole new ballpark of questions I'm going to have, so to make it short, what should i mess with and what should i leave alone? Settings? Things like that. And I don't know what I did, but last night my IE was locking up when I clicked on any link or what have you from the home page. I ran Hijackthis and deleted a couple of no name BHO and it seemed to fix it. And I have tweaked with BlackVipers settings before, yet I'm not wuite sure which settings to use. I do want some Help options available because I jacked this thing up before and Windows saved my butt. But, I'd like the functionality of squeezing everything I can out of this thing performance wise. Bah!
