Can I install both DirectX 9 and 10?

    I am running Vista 64 with direct X 10.

    I have a game that requires direct x 9. I am wondering if I can also install
    direct x 9. Will I encounter any problems if I do so?

    Problems like:
    Such as direct X being overwritten or games that can run using either choosing to use Dx 9? Or games
    that require Dx 10 being unable to run?

    Hi

    Was it durning the install of this game that it askes you to install DX9 at all?

    I did install DX9c on my Vista 32bit Ultimate as a few games needed a specific dll and it worked fine but if you do decide to install backup your PC first.

    It wasn't during the install, it installed fine. However, when I started the game (dominions 3 http://www.dominions3.com/) it would crash(dom3.exe has stopped working). I did some asking around and the two solutions are to update my video drivers
    ( I have http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121272 with the 8.511.0.0 drivers, which as far as I can tell are the most recent, and to install directX 9.

    It just occurred to me, would the 8.12 driver be considered "higher" than the 8.5 driver? Seems kind of backwards.

    Yes does seem a little weird but the 8.12 is higher than 8.5, really what they should have named them like is 8.05.

    The game I installed which was Shadowrun as part of the install did the DX9 drivers for me and looks like you willhave to download and install them to add the dx9 dlls needed to run the game properly.
