Can I remove fonts showing as a blank box?

I'm preparing to install some artsy new fonts on my computer. Before I do, I printed out a list of fonts currently on my system which shows those "system fonts" necessary for operation.

I want to remove some of the really boring fonts that I'll never use in my art programs. When looking at the list, I'm wondering why some fonts show up as nothing but blank, upright rectangles. What purpose do they serve? Can they be deleted? Some of them show up as system fonts (example: Estrangelo Edessa and Latha) some do not (Shruti, Raavi.)

I plan on moving the fonts I don't want to a disk, just in case I need to restore them, but the blank rectangles have me baffled.

I know some of these fonts you have to have Supplemental Language Support enabled, so you will probably never use them. Burn them to the cd.

Courier 10,12,15 (VGA res)

Courier New Bold (TrueType)

Marlett (Windows 95/98)*
Modern (Plotter)
MS Sans Serif 8,10,12,14,18,24 (VGA res)
MS Serif 8,10,12,14,18,24 (VGA res)
Roman (Plotter)
Script (Plotter)
Small fonts (VGA res)
Symbol (TrueType)
Symbol 8,10,12,14,18,24 (VGA res)
Times New Roman (TrueType) -

Any font with a red A for its icon.
Any font that begins with the letters MS.

*Marlett is a hidden system file and it will not show up in a search, however, it may show up in your program font lists.
