I would recommend just getting a Wireless Repeater. It can capture the wireless signal and re-broadcast it again. You can then use the LAN Port and put a switch behind it for any computer using a lan port. This is a much better route than using a Laptop and a Wireless Router. This setup will be a little more difficult to get setup, but way more efficient and you will get faster transfer rates.

    Here's the Parts:
    Wireless Repeater:

    Switch:

If you decide to go this route, I can help you with the configuring of the Wireless Repeater.

thanks for the reply squeaner but money is an issue and the speed of the connection or transfer rate is not... i already have the netgear router and am not looking for an increase in speed or dramatic increase in range... i have tried ics on my other laptop but the signal does not get past my up stairs landing... (just to clarify,,, i am using a neighbours wifi with their permission and therefore cannot move the router closer as it is already on the closest wall to me) i was going to use the laptop to receive the strongest signal (upstairs) and run the router downstairs through cable.... so i can use it in the living room. thanks again in advance.

Did you try bridging the connections in Windows? What OS? Then run a cable to the WAN port, maybe?

I know you mentioned money, but I'd get a router that can run DD-WRT and make a bridge. Simple.

BTW Routers define networks, so using the router on the rest of the network will make 2 networks out of this.
