    Hi,

I have checked and tried a lot of the thing in previous threads but I can't get rid of this problem. I cannot access control Panel (flashes for a second), Windows update, view windoes installed updates (in Programs and Features, P&G itself loads fine) I have used ComboFix.exe and it fixed something, and have also tried VundoFix, would have tried Fixwareout (if it worked on Vista). I have no idea what's wrong, I still have the problem.

I also tried Lavasoft Ad-aware scan (found nothing but tracking cookies), Symantec Antivirus Scan (found a trojan in Java, a .jar file I deleted it), then I uninstalled my Java now and tried ComboFix again, also Tried Trojan Remover.

My PC has always blue-screened everyday since I installed vista could it have damaged windows installation?

I am running Vista Business 32-bit SP1 RC1. Please help

    Hi shakoor_h

When you ran the other scans, did you also run AVG Antispyware and Spybot S&D? If so, did they find anything? Was there a log from AVG Antispyware?

The symptoms you describe could be related to malware, but could also be related to other things. This driver nvlddmkm.sys which belongs to Nvidia can lead to blue screens. I would like to ask someone to look at your logs and your symptoms who is more knowledgeable about Vista. If you have information from the above two scans, that could also help us.

I didn't run Spybot or AVG antispyware, because I thought Windows Defender and Lavasoft Ad-aware would be enough? I will try and run these programs as soon as possible on my computer if it will help.

Ran a spybot scan it didn't find anything (apart from MRUs) and also ran a quick avg antispyware scan, again found nothing. I have attached the spybot log

I tried doing a system restore (but I the oldest I had was only 2 days ago, stupid vista), anyways I tried it, it didn't work and I noticed I couldn't enable Symantec Antivirus. So I undid the system restore and now I can enable symantec. Another symptom possibly?

How come you can't edit posts on MajorGeeks?

    Hi

You would be best to rollback to Vista RTM as SP1 RC is not supported software as yet as its still a beta and in being a beta will and can have many issues will security software in showing false positives.

Did you do an upgrade from XP to Vista?
Is all your PC and Hardware ( Driver ) specs Vista compatible?

The control Panel issue is a know one and any number of the below applications could be causing it, anything that messes with Shellex ContextMenuHandlers among other core components.

You also may need to update a fair few of your software programs as they are not 100% Vista compatible and can cause BSODs, Nero 7 ( especially if INCD is running ), Ad Muncher, O&O Defrag ( version 10 is fully Vista compatible ), Symantec Norton, ISOBuster ( unless latest version ) etc etc and there will be others in your list, you will need to double check they are Vista compatible as any one of them could be causing you BSODs and crashes.

One KB on his happening http://support.microsoft.com/kb/936686 with your Control Panel and a fix but, I dont know how happy this one is with SP1 RC installed.

Some beta testers are reporting same on non-opening Control Panel, and working on whats causing it with MS, but as this is beta software this happens in some senarios and is the risk involved in running betas unfortunatly.

Ps. you cannot edit posts past 5mins, its a default we have.

I did a clean install of Vista Business 32 bit, on brand new hardware new 500GB HDD, 4GB RAM (I tested it and it has no errors). I think the Blue-screening is something to do with my graphics card but could also be Symantec. the thing is it did once BSOD in Safe mode aswell, which I am guessing wouldn't have been because of Symantec because it was not running...

My Motherboard is an Asus Striker Extreme, Q6600, 8600GTS 512MB and I am running all latest Vista compatible drivers etc.

I will try and roll back to RTM if I can through Safe mode

i do have Nero 7 installed but I never run InCD so I don't see how that could be causing my problem?

I just uninstalled SP1 RC1 and can confirm that the problem went away, so something went wrong with SP1. Just though I'd reply so if others had the same problem, they would know a possible solution.

    Thanks anyway guys.

    Hi Shakoor

Cheers for the feedback, I thought as much, but your conformation is handy as I will feed this back to the development team on Vista SP1, but its likely that one of your applciations broke this, mainly as I mentioned its possibly not Vista compatible, so well worth updating or checking all your apps at Vista compatible or at least upto date.
