Cannot connect network HP Laserjet 1020 to vista

I have a HP Laserjet 1020 printer connected to my MS XP desktop. The printer is networked to 2 other computers runinning XP. My problem is that I have a new laptop running Vista and I can't get the printer connected to the network. I changed the vista workgroup name to the same one on the XP machine and on setup it finds the printer on the network, but I get the message,"Windows cannot connect to the printer. The local print spooler is not running. Please restart the spooler or restart the machine." I went to "services.msc" and restarted the spooler but it didn't work. Can anyone help? Thanks!
