    So here is my problem...

My mother's computer became infected with some pretty bad malware that I'm fairly certain spreads itself quite easily through any LAN. It infected my wife's laptop just by being connected to the same wireless network. Both of those computers were running Windows XP.

My computer is running Windows Vista, and has shown no signs of infection. However, when I hooked up to my wireless network at school today, the only computer in the lab also online (running XP) began showing signs of infection. Is it possible that I could just be a "carrier" of sorts?

Symptoms include random popups trying to get you to download Antivirus XP 2008, Registry Defender, and other fake programs. Also VBS.TV, and lots of other garbage. It only starts popping up when a browser is accessed.

Please help me. I need to stop spreading this thing around. Here is my HJT log:

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please uninstall HJT as it will be properly installed when you do the following:

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.

Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    Note:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can running steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

Starting your computer in Safe mode

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
