I have one of those Acer Notebooks, and the C drive is clean, but I cannot install a new operating system because of this horrid BIOS PASSWORD. I've tried inputting BIOS, CMOS, Phoenix, & PHOENIX. So is this notebook pretty much trash now? :confused I hope not...

So once again, I am leaving it up to the MAJOR GEEKS!!! :major :major :major

    please help...

I think you will have to contact Acer. When you call or email, give the name of the person the computer is registered to and all the numbers on the bottom of the notebook.

Well we opened it up. Took out the little lithium battery for 3 minutes and installed everything. And it still does it :confused

There's this handy little CD called hiren's boot disk.

I used it when my school just dumped some old computers. I took one home and I had to crack the bios password to try and overclock it. Unfortunately, the overclock did not work, but I did get the bios password.

It's pretty handy. I keep it around in case I ever need to do something.

Thanks for the info, but the boot disk is unable to run. this "Phoenix" App starts up before anything even gets a chance to run. I called Acer they stated that it would cost $100 to reset the password. I don't understand, we removed a small lithium. from the top of the mother board. Could another battery be below the motherboard? Thanks!

I see that you followed plodr's advice and found a price tag for what you are trying to accomplish when contacting Acer!

How did you manage to clean/delete C:/ drive without the password, as it appears to be a power on BIOS password?:)

So you're not able to access the bios at all?

If you are able to access it just a bit, make sure you've changed the boot sequence to having CD go first.

Also, seeing as it's Acer, there should be something on the stratup screen like "press F10 to go to boot menu or something"

Not when there is a BIOS password. That's the point of a BIOS password so no one can get in and bypass it.

Not all "bios passwords" are the same. There is a BIOS password like you have that comes up before you can get into BIOS, but like other here maybe thinking there is a boot password. With the boot password set you can get into BIOS. But there is supposedly no way to clear a BIOS password without an eprom programmer or sending it back to the manufacture.
