i use several antivirus software as well as Norton Security Suite
my laptop works in all aspects except for one:

i cannot upload video files via ftp, to vid sharing sites like youtube, to storage sites like aws.amazon.com etc. i might get lucky and get a 70-80 mb vid file to
youtube uploaded but most of the time the files will get 60-70% uploaded and crash.

i should include that i also cannot ftp/upload large files (any) 750+ zipped as well.

is there any particular virus that targets this procedure?

    hey tim,

i just recently finished doing the "READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide" process.

i was able to do everything as described for VISTA Clean, (run antivirus, get logs, etc.) EXCEPT for one. i installed "RootRepeal" software, trying downloads from diff listed sites, but it would 'hang' at initializing and go no further. i waited as long as 30-40 minutes, but no-go.

initially my problem was in regard to not being able to upload video or large files via ftp,to you tube, etc. i forgot to mention that i had problems reinstalling Sun Java and my Win Media Player (for Vista) was screwed up so i couldn't watch .wmv files. right now i was able to install "Classic Win Media Player" and that works, but only manually. (meaning i have to drop wmv file into the player b4 hand.)

of the 3 problems, i was able to resolve reinstalling JavaSun. but still have problems with video upload and reinstalling a WMP for vista. actually, i keep getting an error that a "newer" version exists already on pc, even though the WMP folders are empty/uninstalled.

soooo, before i send you the 'logs' i have, do i still need "RootRepeal" log?

    thanx,
    alx

No, you can skip the RootRepeal log. But I am still thinking that this is not a malware issue. However, I will look at the logs you attach to make sure. ;)

    logs attached.

yeah, i don't know if it's malware or what, (vid uploads) i tried with/without firewalls or antivirus of any kind. i contacted cuteFTP, youtube, aws.amazon but they basically just said check malware/viruses blah, blah. i only have 2 gigs memory and a good 55-60% of it is used just starting my laptop up. could that have anything to do with it? (lack of mem.) the thing is, i never had a problem prior to Dec 2010. i've had this laptop for over 3 years.

i tried to use Vista Op disk to see if i could do a reinstall (while not changing settings) but it wouldn't do it if i had Vista on it, i had to either be in XP, going to Vista, or Vista going to Win7, not Vista to Vista. useless unless you do a 'clean' install. might have to upgrade OS, which i don't really want to do.

incidentally, i use PRO versions of Malwarebytes and SuperAntiSpyware. (i reinstalled and followed your procedure, changing file name, etc. for Malwarebytes)

    thanx in advance,
    alx

I am not seeing any malware in your logs. I suggest that you post in the software forum for further assistance. Your logs are clean.

You may want to uninstall Cyberdefender as you already have Norton installed.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
