Can't boot up. everything is black - frozen. Safe mode is frozen. wont finish booting

    Got a redirect today and looked in task manager to see if I picked something up. All I noticed was a Ubamia.exe that didn't look like it belonged there. Tried to run McAfee, but it wouldn't update. The scan produced no infected file. Malwarebytes and superantispyware wouldn't update either. Multiple attempts to reload them to try to update just made it worse. Soon they wouldn't load. Gave me an "open with..." box for everything. My internet wouldn't load, add/remove programs wouldn't, even restarting froze and dimmed the lights to the point that I can hardly see the Windows logo. Safe mode starts to boot up for a few seconds, then freezes. I am running XP on a Dell. All this started this morning! Fast! crazy fast. Do I have any hope of saving my files? My Xbox live isn't working now either because it is hooked into that computer. Please help.

    If this was caused by McAfee, the fix is HERE.

    If your exe files are corrupt, you can try the repair HERE. Scroll down to the ninth file.

    Have you tried to run ComboFix and MGTools.exe? Can you open task manager?

    If you can not boot into either normal or safe mode, you can try repairing through the recovery console with instructions How to recover from a corrupt registry.

    Safe mode won't finish booting up. stalls after just a few seconds. System recovery let me type in the commands but every attempt ended up saying file not found or access is denied. Normal mode stalls as soon as the Windows logo appears and it gets very dim. It just stays on that screen.
    Registry fix didn't work
    exe fix didn't work
    McAfee fix wouldn't let me complete the steps.
    I can't find my recovery disk so attempts to use that will be useless.

    If you cannot boot in any mode ( safe or normal mode ) and you cannot run any of the READ & RUN ME there is not much we can do for you except suggest what is in the below quote box

    At the risk of sounding completely stupid, I must ask...

    I got the Avira rescue CD burned and running on my infected computer. When the virus scanner window starts, my video display is so big that I cannot click the scan button on the bottom right of the screen because it is cut off. A tutorial suggested the following...
    • If you encounter display problems when booting on the Rescue CD (wrong colours, cut image, ...), when the Rescue CD boot menu appears, please type 5 and try all the display modes until you find the right.

    I tried all 9 modes and none changed my display at all. Is there any other way to reduce my display mode?
    It feels like my files are just a few clicks away if I could only run this recovery program. Thanks for helping!

    Frankly, I haven't had the need to run that program. I take it that you can't use your mouse to move the window around to be able to either minimize the size or get to the scan button? Plus, I am not certain it is a malware issue as it also sounds like it could be a hardware failure.
