I was recently doing a little bit of music downloading. Upon downloading one of the songs, my computer got infected with a virus. The virus is imbedded inside of the music file. The virus causes a window to pop up that says: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Buffer Overrun Detected!
    Program C:\Windows\Explorer.exe
A buffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the programs
internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must be
    terminated
it also pops up one of these windows that says the same thing but for a couple different programs. If i press exit or ok, it looks like it almost restarts the explorer real quick, and exits alot of my current programs. I ran several virus/spyware checks with PC-cillin and prevx on the folder the song is in, as well as the system32 directory because I heard thats where it "lives", but it comes up with nothing. When I try and delete the file, more of the buffer overrun windows pop up, and the progress bar freezes up after a little while. Any suggestions on how I should get rid of the virus?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Actually it does not sound like a virus at all. It sounds like you are missing some Windows Updates.

However if you wish to check your PC for malware, follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide
    • If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going.
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not.
    Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode. You can run steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools on another PC and burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
