can't install hardware

    I have a problem installing hardware such at DVD writer. After following Wizard install instructions using device CD Rom, I get a message that hardware wasn't installed because the software couldn't be found. I also had the same issue trying to use MP3 player and digital camera. My system is Windows XP and the computor is a Dell Dimension 2400. Can anyone help?
