I am working on a friend's PC who has malware galore. I read READMEFIRST and started with Superantispyware after doing all the prep steps. It ran fine and found over 190 infections. When it finished and it requested a re-boot, I did and now I cannot get past the login screen. When I click on either of the two users, it says, loading personal settings and then says logging off. I don't think the guy has his Windows installation disk. How can I get into Windows to continue cleaning his machine?

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Did you try booting in safe boot mode?
Did you try last known good configuration?

If those do not work, you will need to get a Windows XP CD and try the below:

    http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;307545&sd=tech

It is also possible that your userinit.exe file has been deleted ( it may have been infected ) and you may need to boot to the Recovery Console and copy it from the CD back to the Windows system32 folder.

Yes, I tried safe mode, same problem. Also tried last known good configuration twice, and it did not help. Since I have no XP cd, I searched online for other fixes.

I was finally able to log in after researching the problem via google and came upon a fix for the log in loop problem. The fix came from Dan at thinkinginpixels.com; worked like a charm.

I am still following majorgeeks' cleaning procedures and will post my logs as soon as I get through all of them. So far, so good....nor errors, knock on wood.

Thank you for your assistance! Glad you guys are here.
